Effects of natural aging and pre-aging on the strength and electrical conductivity in Al-Mg-Si AA6201 conductor alloys

The effects of natural aging (NA), and its combination with pre-aging (PA), on the strength electrical conductivity (EC) drawn Al–Mg–Si AA6201 conductor alloys were studied. Natural had a negative impact precipitation before drawing process. However, wire counteracted detrimental influence hardening; after post-aging, NA samples exhibited better EC compared to those that did not undergo NA. Transmission electron microscopy results show higher number density precipitates in post-aged conditions relative followed by post-aging provided highest (369 MPa) an acceptable (53% IACS). applied modified strengthening contributions favor hardening. relationship between was analyzed detail using models Matthiessen's rule based various microstructural features.
